Cobind Linux Desktop

Finally, my company released its first product, Cobind Desktop Linux. I’ve been pretty busy working on this and the tools surrounding it for the last 6 months, and boy has it been a trip. Today distrowatch posted an entry about us which has generated lots of traffic so who knows what tomorrow will bring.

We started with a need that developed into an idea and then created a product. It was a simple request to create a custom Linux distribution based on what is now Fedora Core. In the process of doing that, we realized that this need might actually make a good product. So a few months later, we had a prototype decided to test our concept on something fairly complex. Hence the concept for the Cobind Desktop. We didnt have to look far (since our home computers were running Fedora Core with a slightly modified XFCE window manager), so we just took those general modifications and baked them into a distribution using our tools.

The company was founded by a Fellowship granted by Idea Foundry and the blood, sweat and tears of my friend David Watson and myself. I extend much thanks to the folks down at Idea Foundry and our other advisors who have helped us get this far. If you want to learn more, check out our website and read David’s post.

Very nice distro, only one disc.
Tried to install on a 233Mhz, but it doesn’t.
Will try again on a faster machine, yes, the docs say min 400Mhz, but I had to try.

YEA! it works, installed on a 333/66mhz with 64MB ram… very easy install, found all resources, didn’t get the internet going. Will try again.
    Very nice distro

Great distro! I installed it a few days ago on my Athlon 2600/512 DDR system and everything is running smoothly. Nautilus occasionally crashes, but the rest of the OS has been great and very user-friendly. Nice work! I’m looking forward to future releases.

YEA, I’ve been playing with the 0.2 beta distro of Cobind. I’ve even installed it on a 900Mhz with 256MB ram, and loaned it to a “grandmother” friend of mine, (her other system keeps crashing becuase it’s windows and it is so easy to sc*ew up. She likes the 0.2 distro very much better than the 0.1 distro, (the 0.2 come with the GUIYUM so I’ve was able to download and install some games for her. The 0.2 Cobind distro is just the desktop Linux that I’ve been looking for her to try. With the added games, she was very happy. Between the two systems she likes the Cobind better. (same CPU/MHZ/MB in each machine.) Waytogo, I’m dieing to download the 0.3 beta IF/When it comes out for her (and me too) to try. When it gets to RETAIL (the 0.2 version) I will be buying it for her… Great software and the right way to keep it simple.
