2005 Subaru Outback and Legacy - US Market

Subaru just announced the 2005 Outback at the Chicago Auto Show. This is a direct port of the European Outback and now the lineup features a turbo-charged 2.5 liter 4 cylinder that cranks out 250hp. Plus a newly tuned 3.0 liter 6 cylinder engine that also pulls in at 250hp, up from 225hp last year. But the powerplant aside the redesign of these cars are awesome, they have a very European flare and remind me the Saab version of the Impreza. Plus they have a Legacy (non-outback) version of the 2.5 liter turbo as well, this is one bad car.

UPDATE
Subaru just launched a new site to promote their 2005 linup.

The overall restyling effect is very positive for subaru. However, the front end resemblance to chevy impala is disturbing, to say the least.

THe car design is fine, but to think we current owners like the new car compared with today’s design its a NO NO. Ridiculous the stop light design, the fog lights, the doors, the rack, I spent 28k in the Limited, but will look elsewhere as this car does NOT compare , and let me tell you, not all is only driven by what is inside ONLY.

I do not like it.

Last time. The car looks to simple, no rack on the roof, no big fog lights, no nice stops, this is not an Outback, this is something else. I am personally waiting for the 7 passenger version, like the Pacifica. Where is Subaru asking questions about what current customers want?????

Looking elsewhere in the next car.

There are numerous false or non-objective statements on this page. Anyone who has actually seen one of these cars in front of them knows it does not resemble the Impala in any way, front or otherwise. The old H6 motor got 212hp, not 225. If some of you really spent $28K on an old Outback because of its looks, I guess you have that right. But the 2005 models are far more efficient in numerous ways and are much more fun to drive (I drive nearly 100 of them a day, and I’ve driven 1000’s of the ’04s)and in the opinion of most of the rest of the world, are much sharper looking, too. If Subaru has to lose a confused person as a customer, they will more than make up for it with the droves of new customers coming in. And as for the last post, these cars are not simpler. lower and a little more streamlined, but not simpler. The new Outback
actually DOES have a roof rack standard (I install them sometimes, I know) and it is an option on the Legacy. There are 2 different types of roof rack available this year. The foglights aren’t as big, but they are much brighter and have a better spread. The new Legacy/Outbacks are moving into a higher caliber market. So maybe if you like the older cars more, and you’re basing this on looks, Subaru has just passed you. Maybe you should look into oneof those full-size Kia “luxury” sedans.

Speaking of Subaru’s, has anyone ever seen the Subaru SVX or SRX? I was in Florida last week and saw one. I’ve never seen it before this time I was at a gas pump in Florida. It doesn’t look like a Subaru, more like a …one of those 3000GT cars…ANYBODY KNOW WHAT I’M TALKIN ABOUT?
