Back From Vacation

I’m back from a week long vacation and am ready to start working again. My wife and I went back to the same cabin that we had stayed at on our honeymoon. It was very interesting to think about how far we have come in two years and to think about where we will be in two more. The cabins we stayed in are at the Smoke Hole Caverns in West Virginia. They are really nice cabins but after the third day we realized how we have come to depend on the city and in some ways couldn’t wait to get back home. We both really enjoyed spending time with one another which so often gets put on the back burner.

I do have one funny story to tell before bring this to a close. I forgot to take the USB cable for my digital camera so I had no way of dumping my pictures off the memory stick. By the third day I had filled up my 128 meg stick. Luckily I found my Memory Stick Floppy Adapter was in my camera bag so I was saved (not quite). I then realized that I had never re-installed the disk’s drivers on my laptop so I was still out of luck. All I needed was an internet connection so I could download the drivers. Easier said than done we are in the backwoods of West Virginia with spotty cell service and no phone line. On one of our trips into Petersburg, the closest town, I saw a Radio Shack. Then I had the vision of using their internet connection, downloading the driver, and getting the pictures off my camera. So I went strolling into the Radio Shack and asked the guy behind the counter if I could use their internet to download a driver. He first looked at me slightly strange and then said “Why yes sir you can”. I was so overcome with joy to see google appear in the web browser that I almost started dancing. I did my search and found my driver in a matter of seconds, too my surprise they had a broadband connection. After copying the driver onto a floppy it worked. So once again a desperate geek was saved by the local Radio Shack. Here’s to the ‘Shack!

Here are the pictures that were saved!
