Christopher Goes To College
This weekend has been filled with emotion and sweat as my little brother Christopher Mills went off to college. He is attending my alma mater Bethany College and hopes to learn the riches of the earth. He will be the second in our family to attend college and we are very proud of him.
I’m sure my parents felt older, I sure did. I wonder what it is like to see your baby’s moving away, creating their own life, and standing on their own. My mom cried so I know it makes them sad but I’m sure it makes them very proud and happy that they have made such sacrifices to raise two children that will go forward and be successful in ways they can not be foreseen.
My little brother is starting college, a young adult out on his own, and his whole life before him. The campus I once called home now has fewer familiar faces and the freshmen look much younger. It feels as though a different person walked onto that campus 5 years ago and since has faded into just a memory. I have no regrets…I loved my time at Bethany and hope that Chris will learn to love it as much as I did. Space between Bethany and I will continue to grow, but my mind will never forget the lessons learned within those hallowed halls. I miss Bethany. It gave me independence, education, and love that will never be lost to time. Bethany is whatever you make of it… I was disassembled and put back together with the strength to face the harsh world that exists outside those city limits. To top off, Bethany gave me my wife, and for that I’ll always be grateful. If I could charge one suggestion to my brother it would be to open your heart and your mind and let Bethany have your whole body for they will make it stronger in ways you can not imagine.
Good Luck!
